Applications are now being accepted for NWCPHP’s 2019 Public Health Management Certificate.
As the challenge to deliver efficient public health services becomes more pronounced in today’s public health environment, it’s important for managers to possess critical skills in core areas such as budgeting, planning, organizing, and personnel management.
NWCPHP is now accepting applications for the 2019 Public Health Management Certificate—a program designed to help public health professionals build these important skills to become successful managers in their workplace.
Applications will be accepted through June 1, with early-bird rates available to those who apply by May 1.
“Our field of public health attracts folks who have widely different backgrounds,” said Bud Nicola, Management Certificate coach in an interview with NWCPHP last year. “In public health, we need different kinds of people with different skills.”
But while diverse public health professionals bring valuable attributes, they may not necessarily be equipped to be effective managers who are on top of such core issues as budgets, program plans, and assessments.
The Management Certificate is an award-winning training program that helps build this critical structure and consistency within organizations by improving their managers’ efficiency and effectiveness in these core areas.
Throughout the yearlong distance-based program, which includes one Seattle on-site, scholars will take core courses to deepen their knowledge on managing people, money, and information. They will take part in an integrated project that incorporates what they learned into real-world situations that are relevant to their own workplace, such as developing a feasibility or business plan, a quality improvement plan, or an evaluation plan.
The Public Health Management Certificate’s learning goals encompass management competencies developed by the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice. These competencies include improving skills in assessment, policy development and program planning, communications, cultural competency, financial planning, and leadership and systems thinking skills.
